The Museum of Fine Arts’ film program is known for featuring contemporary international cinema, restored classics,
American independent films (including films by local artists), films showing
for the first time in Boston, and retrospectives by
international film artists. The current film series that everyone should check
out is titled Music on Film. This
four-film series kicks off with Favela
Rising, a stirring account of Brazilian efforts to overcome slum violence
with the power of music. Other featured films include: New Orleans Music in Exile, a story about the displaced New Orleans music community and Mahaleo, with Madagascar’s most popular music
group. The series finishes with Faith
Akins’ travelogue of current Turkish music in Crossing the Bridge: the Sound of Istanbul.
The
Music on Film series runs from August 3-30 and is the perfect alternative to
beat the sweltering August heat.
