The tale of America’s most beloved 46-year-old high-school freshmen will be heard by the masses. It appears as though the film adaptation of Strangers with Candy will finally appear in theaters, although in limited release.
Fans of the cult T.V. program have been hungrily anticipating the film adaptation since the show ended almost six years ago. After a few years of development, Strangers with Candy will finally be released on June 28th. The plot of the film serves as a prequel to the show, following series hero Jerri Blank’s (Amy Sedaris) journey out of junkie-whoredom and into the classrooms of Flatpoint High. Stephen Colbert, Paul Dinello, and Greg Hollimon all revive their characters as the demented faculty who make only the most marginal attempts at teaching their students. The films also promises a surprising list of celebrity cameos including Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, Justin Theroux, Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman and, oddly enough, designer Todd Oldham. With a script written by Colbert, Dinello, and Sedaris the film should satisfy both new and diehard fans of the original series.
