Aeon Flux

When I heard that Aeon Flux was being made into a full-length feature film, I danced a jig eight times with joy.  When I found out that it wasn’t animated, I nearly choked on my tears.  As excited as I am that the Aeon Flux phenomenon is being revisited, I am worried that Charlize Theron won’t be able to do justice to the part.  Ah yes, I remember the days of my friends and I sneaking peeks at Aeon Flux episode VHS tapes at the age of 12 and turning it off at the sound of a grownup’s footsteps.  We were enthralled by the twisted storylines, Aeon’s complete lack of empathy for bad guys, and the sauciness of her barely-there leather suit and five foot long legs.  Those strangely long legs will be sorely missed in the new film, as will the rest of the beautiful animation by Peter Chung.  Since chances are low that the film will eloquently introduce Aeon to popular culture, we can at least hope that it will create enough hype for Chung to produce modern animated episodes.

The movie comes out December 12^th, but even more exciting, the digitally re-mastered DVD collection of all of the animated episodes comes out November 22^nd!

Karmaloop Boston Grand Opening Party

Karmaloop celebrated the opening of its flagship store at 160 Newbury Street Boston in white hot style throwing down a huge bash at the criminally cool Underbar. Underbar was packed to capacity with fashion and design peeps like Doug Jaeger, Ben Nabors and Matt Spangler all of The Happy Corp NYC; representatives from Modernista and Arnold Worldwide; Brian Kelley and Luis Navarro and their gang from Reebok; John Franklin, designer at New Balance; Barney Waters, Director of Marketing at Puma; Mike Steinberg, Alan Fernandez and Michele Castro of Triple Five Soul Brooklyn; Johnny Cupcakes of his eponymous line; Mike Chung of Freshnessmag.com Hong Kong; Hardip Manku and Zoum of Plain Jane Montreal, Summer Mathews of Boxfresh London; Lisa Shivak founder of Solo Agency NYC; Chris Mundy of 55DSL; Cobi Levy, CEO of Primp Los Angeles; and Eric Vichnes of Goorin Brothers, musicians, skaters like Eli Reed (Vehicle, UXA and DVS skateboards) and Jon Nickles (owner of Technical Board Shop), legendary break dancers, like Crazy Leggs and Fever One of the Rock Steady Crew and Lino Delgado of the Floor Lords, artists, designers, the press and some very low key athletes (David Ortiz and Willy McGuiness), as well as artists, designers, magazine publishers and other cool cats from NY, Los Angeles and Montreal.

The night’s entertainment was out of control, from the Eclectic Collective and Project Move to DJs Synapse (NYC) and Clinton Sparks (the headliner DJ of the last Mtv VMAs who has collaborated with Busta Rhymes, Talib Kweli, Kanye West, Common, Pharrell Williams and was awarded "Power Player Of The Year" - Global Mixx 2005 DJ Conference), the music makers of the evening had the crowd going crazy. 

Karmaloop videos and fashion slides and images from featured artists looped throughout the night on a massive video screen reflecting off of the numerous Dunny ice sculptures, while hot dancers in even hotter (and miniature) outfits did their thing.   

Finally, adding an air of high-culture to the evening, artists Jib Hunt, Shepard Fairey, Amelie Chabannes, Andy Howell and Josh Wisdumb all contributed pieces that were displayed around the space.
