Sugar Boots!!!

Thomas Hirschhorn

The ICA (Institute of Contemporary Art) in Boston is exhibiting Thomas Hirschhorn’s’ “Utopia, Utopia=One World, One War, One Army, One Dress” instillation. For those of you whom are not familiar with Thomas Hirschhorn, he is a French artist well known for his provocative multimedia political art.  The Utopia exhibit is comprised of three floors of an entirely camouflage theme.  Throughout the exhibit you will find actual camouflage army gear, camouflage in popular culture items, candid pictures pertaining to the camouflage them, massive obtrusive structures resembling war weapons (in camo of course), and much more.  There are also mannequins and globes wrapped in camo tape with awkward growths which represents people’s personal camouflages. The entire instillation is politically laden and definitely a must see if you are going to be in the Boston area anytime until January.

Undoboy

Undoboy is the alias of one talented ass graphic designer by the name of Chean Wei Law. His online website will blow your mind with an extremely refreshing approach to design. He incorporates elements of quirky video game characters in a factory type setting with interactive buttons and prompts.  His work, which is featured on the website, includes a vast collection of print and multimedia work. My favorite is his work on the Vespa scooter campaign.

Thumbsucker

So I’m at the movies the other day (I went to see The Baxter, which I highly recommend!) and I saw a preview for this movie call Thumbsucker and it looks awesome! It’s about this kid Justin who is 17 and still sucks his thumb. So he gets hypnotized and stops sucking his thumb, but he still doesn’t feel “normal” and decides to try all the things that other “normal” kids his age do such as smoke pot and have sex. In the end he realizes out that there’s no such thing as “normal”. It comes out today so go and see it!

Biennale de Lyon 2005

The Biennale de Lyon 2005 in France is a huge expo of artists from around the world. If you’re lucky enough to go there the exhibitions (which take place from September 14 to December 31) should sweep you off your feet, but if you’re like me and a trip to Lyon is just a little out of your budget you can just daydream about how beautiful the works of Andy Warhol, Dieter Roth, Brian Eno, Yoko Ono, James Turrell and so many others would be in person.

Sneaky Love Affair

Popular culture is taking a drive down Sneaker Mania road.  We have all seen tons of sneakers collaborations in the literal format of “blank x blank.”  Most of sneakerheads have been to a Sneaker Pimp exhibition, frequented sneakers sites such as www.crookedtongues.com, have peep the Frank 151 chocolate sneaker, and for many the Dunk is over.  Well it doesn’t end there, ESPN2 is airing a new show all about the shoes.  “It’s the Shoes” is dedicated to the growing sneaker culture, featuring a-list celebrities and their “sneaky” love affair. See Russell Simmons, Spike Lee, Missy Elliott and many more as they show off their kicks in a half an hour time slot.

Sudoku

Have you heard of Sudoku? Well if you haven’t, it’s a number puzzle that has been recently added to the Metro Newspaper. Basically it’s a 3x3 square and each of the 9 squares is divided into 9 smaller squares, the objective is to fill in each horizontal line with the numbers 1 – 9 and each of the big 9 squares with the numbers 1 – 9, it’s kind of hard to explain but I’m totally addicted and I definitely recommend trying it!!

Wallace and Gromit are back!

Remember Wallace and Gromit?? Well they’re back with a movie called The Curse of the Were-Rabbit; a comedy that involves a giant vegetable competition and a “vegetable ravaging beast”. It sounds hilarious and I’m sure it will be so be sure to go and see it when it comes out October 7.

BearBricks Tour
