Mike Mills, director of the indie teen-angst flick Thumbsucker, has another talent that you may not have heard about. He’s a graphic artist and has designed the CD sleeves of such rockin’ bands as Sonic Youth, Beastie Boys, Cibo Matto, and my personal favorite, Air.We’ve recently gotten a hold of his newest piece of art at Karmaloop, the Mills I-pod case. The cases come in three designs that all look like his film: childhood-gum-pop-cutesy combined with post-puberty pissed off-ness.Ah yes, Remember those days?Show your I-pod you care because you’d be sitting at the lunch table alone without it.
Are you a thumb sucker?Perhaps you’re a sucker for thumbs. If so, check out these designer collectibles.Don’t they look just like cute little Gucci digits? These super-collectible little guys come in sets of five… coincidence?I think not.Contributing designers for the Yellow Set include: Comme des Garcons, Maison Martin Margiela, Gucci, Vivienne Westwood, and Christian Lacroix for Pucci.Designers for the Blue Set include:Giorgio Armani, John Galliano, Stefano Pilati for Yves Saint Laurent, Helmut Lang, and Jean Paul Gaultier. These sassy stubs are proving to be one of the coolest finds Karmaloop’s ever had.Just wanted to point that out to you… All right now, enough with the finger jokes, just have a look.

Here we come now to one of the, if not the most exciting visit of mine in Paris: Colette. I know that some people already start saying that Colette is overrated, but I have to disagree and tell you, that if you have not seen Colette, you have not seen Paris.
Guillaume Salmon, Bureau de Presse & Communication of Colette, was nice enough to meet up with me, answer all my questions and let me take pictures. Now, even if you have not been there yet, the pictures might give you an idea and a small experience of what Colette is all about.
Start by reading the small Interview with Guillaume Salmon from Colette and continue by gliding through each floor of this exceptional conceptshop in the heart of Paris.
Kenzo Minami, the freakin’ sweet designer from Japan, has joined forces with Reebok, and their offspring is like a little Baby Jesus for the toes. The Kenzo Instapump Fury is a 90’s throwback kick with a lot of… well…kick. Incorporating Minami’s signature semi-symmetrical style, retro color schemes and industrial design influences, this super-limited edition sneaker needs to be taken for a walk. Even the shoe box is worth saving. Only 500 pairs of these are in circulation and guess what? Karmaloop’s got ‘em.
Writing up your X-mas wish list? You wanna add the ’06 UnInc from Burton. This hot little number goes well with fresh powder and long johns. The artist Noah Butkus (we’re sorry about your name buddy, but you make up for it in style) combines street designs and geometrical shapes to create beautiful color graphics like bubbly skulls and melting piglets in vibrant colors.Almost too hot to ride!
With their October release of Campfire Headphase, the elusive Michael Sandison and Marcus Eoin (Sandison) have finally disclosed some information about themselves after 10 years of producing music and gaining a huge following with very few interviews or shows. After all this time, we come to find out they’re brothers, denying this fact for ages for fear of being compared to other sibling sound-makers. Growing up in rural Scotland, the brothers learned to play their parents’ instruments and began recording their music at the age of 10.Inspired by early rock such as the Beatles and Joni Mitchell, Boards of Canada have modernized the psychedelic.Combining pre-recorded flute, guitar, piano, radio, TV voice overs, mixing and a little love, the result is a sullen electronica, banking on soft sorrow.Campfire Headphase is receiving mixed reviews, some fans feel that the band is stuck in a stalemate while others don’t want them to change a bit. Decide for yourself, check it out...
Jeremy Scott, the dangerously experimental fashion designer, has recently graced the world with his Spring 2006 Collection.Combining whimsical Egyptian wear with 80’s patterns and styles, he’s done something worth talking about.Scott has managed to pair the unexpected in a sexy and strange modern fairytale design. He uses glitter, neon cheetah prints, stretch pants, bigger-than-a-bread box sneaker tongues, and a whole lot of King Tut.This collection is anciently urban and chronologically crazy.I don’t know whether to write in hieroglyphics or listen to the Hieroglyphics.Doesn’t sound hot to you?Better check it out…
Karmaloop Boston's ( 160 Newbury Street ) grand opening party at Underbar on Thursday, November 17 2005 was dope!
Reebok was the chief sponsor of the event and Reebok folks were out in full force! Red Bull and Triple Five Soul were additional sponsors of the two fabulous VIP sections where many of their respective crews were nesting around the small tables laden with bottles.
